Ninja Gaiden II costume packs bleed money

This article is over 16 years old and may contain outdated information

The Ninja Gaiden II costumes caught my attention since they were originally going to be part of a launch day or pre-order promotion. When Ninja Gaiden II launched, the costume promotion was a forgotten memory. Suddenly, three of them are on the Xbox Live Marketplace including the Dark Fiend armor which was supposed to be limited to 39,000 gamers only. No “specific country promotions” ever happened. Well, that isn’t entirely true. Taiwan had a Ninja Gaiden II model contest, but I don’t think the finalists got Dark Fiend armor.

The Dark Fiend armor is now on sale for 200 Microsoft Points ($2.50) along with Biometal and Shadow Walker costumes. Each costume is 200 Microsoft Points ($2.50), a change from the update on Gamerscoreblog where a costume five pack was supposed to cost 200 points ($2.50). Essentially, you’re paying five times as much for the outfits if you collect them all. Each costume has five variations so the original update on Gamerscoreblog is correct. One armor with five colors for 200 Microsoft Points.

Something happened and by now our attention is fixated elsewhere (E3?) so the unexpected change in costume pricing/strategy hasn’t been discussed. I don’t want to jump to any conclusions, but I wonder if this has anything to do with Itagaki leaving Team Ninja and the impending Tecmo lawsuit.
