The September 2025 Nintendo Direct kicked off with Super Mario 40th anniversary news about games, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and events in Kyoto, Japan. Shigeru Miyamoto said the sequel film will be the main celebration when it launches in Spring 2026. He also noted that Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 Switch remasterwill be released on October 2, 2025. Mario Tennis Fever will also come to the Switch 2 with Fever Rackets, new modes, an Adventure mode where characters are transformed into babies, and motion-controlled Swing Mode. That debuts on February 12, 2026. Super Mario Wonder Switch 2 Edition is coming too in Spring 2026 with new features like a Bell a Bell Park. The Switch 2 will also get a new Yoshi’s Story sort of game called Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in Spring 2026.

Shigeru Miyamoto said he’s involved in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It also was confirmed that Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Day will reprise their roles as Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, and Luigi.

As for the Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 Switch remaster, that will be available physically and digitally on October 2, 2025. The retail copy will include both games. The digital ones can be purchased separately. Rosalina’s Library will include her storybook with new pages, and that book will be sold physically in real life. There will also be Mario and Rosalina amiibo released on April 2, 2026.

Some events are set for Japan. The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan will feature an anime light display starting in December 2025, and Nintendo will support the Kyoto Marathon 2026 and involve a race bib with the company’s name.
