Nintendo shared an animated short on its official YouTube account about a baby called “Close to You.” The description includes the same term. It is unknown what it might be tied to. However, it seems there is possibly some unknown entity nearby and around the baby influencing objects around them to get it to take its first steps.

The “Close to You” Nintendo animated short begins with a mother and baby playing together in the child’s room. She seems to be trying to get the child to crawl at the outset, holding a stuffed rabbit and encouraging them. After she hears a knock at the door, she gives the baby a pacifier and goes to investigate.

It is then that the entity seems to appear. After the door shuts, we see some blocks on the floor start to move and fall. These hit a rattle, which rolls and is directed to the child’s foot. After it does, the baby picks it up and starts shaking it. This causes the pacifier to fall out of their mouth. The entity near the child then takes control of the pacifier and moves it around the room, getting the toddler to crawl and follow it. It eventually gets the baby to stand for it and toddle toward a chair and crib.

That’s when the mother gets back in, as the kid takes their first steps. The entity then calls attention to itself again by moving in the mobile where it is caught, with the mother grabbing it to return it to the child.

Since the art direction is so different, this is likely not a teaser for a known game like Pokemon Legends: Z-A. In the past, found footage hinted at Mega Victreebel and real world footage teased Mega Malamar. Otherwise, it could have been a tease for a psychic-type Pokemon getting the child to walk via telekinesis.

The “Close to You” Nintendo animated short is live now, and we’ll hopefully learn if it is tied to anything else in the near future.
