Nintendo announced via information from the NPD Group that the Switch console has sold 906,000 units in North America during its release month of March 2017, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo console.
Additionally, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold over 1.3 million units. 925,000 units come from the Nintendo Switch version and nearly 460,000 units from the Wii U version. That means the game saw an attach rate of more than 100% for Nintendo Switch, which may be attributed to those who purchased both the standard and limited edition versions.
Here’s a quote from Nintendo of America President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime:
“Nintendo always strives to offer consumers something fun, new and different. With its various play modes and the innovative features of the Joy-Con controllers, Nintendo Switch provides unique experiences that people can take with them anywhere and share with anyone.”
Nintendo also notes that its Switch sales are off to a record-breaking start, but shipments have not yet been able to keep up with such high demand and they’re working to make sure everyone who wants a system is able to buy one, as more systems are continuously being shipped.
