Hi everyone, Spencer here. If you were at Anime Expo or got Prinny Bomb today you may already know about Character Chowdown, which is designed to teach players how to read Japanese characters.
In Character Chowdown, players control Nibblee and help him "eat" katakana, hiragana, and kanji. While you’re sliding Nibblee across the screen, the game keeps track of which characters you learned and which ones you’re having a hard time with. Other Nommons like Wubblee (the purple dude) actively change the characters on the screen.
I’m proud to say Character Chowdown is the first title from my studio, Yummy Yummy Tummy! We collaborated with the cool coders at Twisted Oak Studios and our friends at NIS America to bring Character Chowdown to iOS devices (it’s optimized for iPhone/iPod and iPads).
The other neato news is since we’re working with NIS America we were able to bring Disgaea characters into Character Chowdown. I showed a screenshot of Prinny at Anime Expo and he’s going to be playable in a later version. Got any suggestions for other Disgaea cameos? Head to the Yummy Yummy Tummy homepage and tell us! I’m going to read all of the submissions and work with NIS America to see who we can add into the game. (Votes really help!)
Character Chowdown is set for release this summer and it includes the katakana pack for free. We’ll have additional language packs for hiragana and hundreds of kanji characters. Oh, one more thing… Character Chowdown also has stamps which you can drag and drop to create custom postcards with flying sharks and Viking cats to share with your friends on Facebook.
I just made that one an hour ago! Want to know more? You can meet the Nommons and find out more about Character Chowdown here.
