No Idol Wrestling Overseas, Japanese 3DS TV App Is Region Locked

Nintendo just released a 3DS app that gives users access to 3D animal programs, magic lessons from the Napoleons and idol sumo wrestling. While any Japan region Nintendo 3DS can download the program, you can only access 3D shows if your system is in Japan.

I grabbed the app from the Nintendo eShop and after setting it up (by picking my birthday/gender), an error message informed me the video service does not work overseas. Other 3D videos, like Nintendo sponsored episodes of Game Center CX 3D can be watched, but those aren’t ad supported like the Fuji and Nippon TV programs. Video content from Wii’s Room, a streaming video service for Wii, is not region locked either.

I suppose a VPN would work if you’re outside of Japan, but I haven’t tried this personally to verify.
