Packaged with Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix + is a second disc with a remake of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. After rushing through Kingdom Hearts II again, I started to play a Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and it’s clearly the highlight of Final Mix +. Kingdom Hearts Re: CoM takes the entire GBA game and throws it in 3D with graphics from the first PS2 game. Like the Game Boy Advance release you move Sora around boxy rooms (now in 3D!) where heartless pop up for Sora to fight. Battles are a little different since Sora has an extra dimension to deal with. You have to get used to locking on enemies to keep the camera focused. Also you will get hit by that shadow heartless looming in the corner, hidden by the camera angle. Battles are more chaotic in Kingdom Hearts Re: CoM than the 2D battles, but if you’re quick you can counter attacks with a higher card even if your attacker is invisible. Camera issues aside, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories is a treat to play. It is a bonus for fans of the Kingdom Hearts series and they are the ones who are going to love the new presentation of the GBA game. You can see a video of how Sora’s journey begins in Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and hear Donald Duck cast spells Japanese past the break.
