Oshi no Ko Interlude Chapter 1 Recap: Mem-cho’s Dream

It was announced on August 7, 2023 that the Oshi no Ko manga would be going on hiatus. In its place, a short spin-off titled Oshi no Ko Interlude written and illustrated by manga artist by Mengo Yokoyari would begin publication in Weekly Young Jump for four chapters. Chapter 2 of Oshi no Ko Interlude will release on August 23, 2023, and here’s a quick catch up of what happened in chapter 1.

Chapter 1 of Oshi no Ko Interlude focuses on Mem-cho and her dream of becoming a famous idol. Memo-cho is a famous YouTuber and former Tik-Toker in Oshi no Ko. She gave up her dream of becoming an idol to focus on supporting her family.

What Happened in Oshi no Ko ex Interlude Chapter 1?

Mem-cho is out drinking with a group of people when they ask if it is okay for a high schooler to drink. Mem-cho brushes the comment off and continues drinking. The other drinkers ask Mem-cho if is she is a big eater as well as a good drinker, and they invite Mem-cho to do a collaboration. Mem-cho cheerfully declares she will do anything.

Later, Mem-cho is filming a makeup review when her friend calls her by her real name. Her friend also remarks that Mem-cho has been working hard on her influencer career. Mem-cho gets upset and tells her friend she “dumped” her real name. As an influencer, Mem-cho has been going to parties and bars even though she does not want to in order to get new projects. Despite all of her hard work at becoming an influencer, her friend asks Mem-cho if she has has given up on wanting to be an idol.

Mem-cho lies to her friend and tells her she can’t make money by being an idol. Her friend drops the matter immediately, inviting Mem-cho out to a mixer so she can find a new boyfriend. At the mixer, a random drunk guy tries to kiss Mem-cho. She notices that somebody is recording at the mixer.

Worried about the video leaking and ruining her reputation, Mem-cho rejects the kiss and rushes out of the mixer. As Mem-cho runs outside into the city, she looks up at a screen with idols performing with tears in her eyes. She realizes she is still dying to become an idol.

The Oshi no Ko anime is available on streaming services such as HIDIVE. Yen Press is releasing the manga volumes in English, with Volume 4 coming out on November 21, 2023.
