Out of the slingshot and on your PS3, Pain arrives on Thursday

The PlayStation Network games have been hit or miss, but I have to hand it to Sony for releasing a blend of casual puzzle affairs, excellent shmups, Sixaxis experiments and artistic titles. Pain isn’t any of those.

In Pain you use a giant slingshot to fling a person like a rag doll to hit targets and wreck an open environment. You can crash into chimps, hit senior citizens and laugh as the unfortunate (virtual) soul is thrown into a building. It's funny… well, MTV’s Jackass funny. I played Pain back at E3 and it wasn’t really my thing. Full disclosure: I'm not a fan of Jackass either. While I'm not crazy about slamming into people wearing cow suits, I appreciate how Sony is taking creative risks with their downloadable games. At $9.99 Pain probably is someone else’s thing.
