Overlord characters crossover content to appear in PSO2 New Genesis

Overlord Will Be PSO2 New Genesis’ First Anime Crossover

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will have new crossover content from the Overlord anime series. Sega revealed the collaboration at the September 2022 NGS Headline program. Players of the new PSO2 online game will be able to obtain avatar parts to replicate popular Overlord characters, such as Albedo and Ainz Ooal Gown.

Sega did not specify the launch window for the new crossover content. However, the company had previously shared a roadmap that includes a plan to launch the PSO2: New Genesis collaboration Scratch with an anime franchise—which fits the description for Overlord—in November 2022.

In the preceding month, it will release a Scratch Ticket lineup based on Melty Blood: Type Lumina as its first external game franchise crossover. Avatar parts and stamps based on the fighting game’s characters, with a focus on the four main Tsukihime characters—Shiki Tohno, Akiha Tohno, Arcueid Brunestud, and Ciel—will be available for a limited time from October 5, 2022.

Sega has been launching a new wave of crossover content additions from other franchises following the first anniversary of PSO2: New Genesis. The VTuber group Hololive Production provided the first-ever collaboration Scratch for the successor to Phantasy Star Online 2. Avatar parts modeled after Shirakami Fubuki, Ninomae Ina’nis, and Holostars’ Kageyama Shien were obtainable for four weeks from August 24 to September 21, 2022. While the original PSO2 also had a plethora of crossovers, the new collaborations have better graphics that conform to the more recent character models in New Genesis.

In the same NGS Headline program, Sega also recorded over 10 million player accounts registered in the Phantasy Star Online 2 series. This number combines the accounts made for the original 2012 online game and the 2021 entry New Genesis on both the Japanese and Global servers. The company will prepare celebrations for the milestone while working on a major update that will add the fourth region, Stia, in December 2022.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is available worldwide on PC and PlayStation 4. The online game is also playable on Nintendo Switch in Japan through a cloud version, as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X for the global edition.
