Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Hands-On With Rise And Ken

P4AU (3)

Atlus had a build of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax with almost all of the characters confirmed for the fighting game. Ken Amada and Koromaru are new for the console version. Ken’s spear gives him a significant amount of range. One of his moves is like a pole vault kick. He can also do an upward spear dive followed by a downward stab. This attack has an upside down V range.

Koromaru acts like a living projectile. You can send him out to hit (or distract) an opponent. It’s possible to send Koromaru flying follow up with Kala-Nemi, Ken’s Persona. This keeps Ken out of striking range, but you can combo with the pole vault kick move too.

Rise is an interesting character and she almost feels like comic relief for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. She attacks using a microphone stand and blowing kisses. The microphone stand has decent reach, not as much as Ken though. Rise’s moves flow together nicely and it was easy to string combos together.

Her Persona has a slow firing missile projectile that "scans" an enemy. I wasn’t sure how this effected the other player, but the scan mark stayed on him. She also has a Sonic Boom like projectile that spins an opponent closer to her and a shield move. The shield, probably because other players didn’t expect it, was extremely effective. If you use this move before an enemy hits Rise, the attacker will get electrocuted. Rise has a wacky super move where she slaps the other player silly before beating them down with a microphone stand.

Persona 4 Ultimax is slated for release this fall on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
