Since revealing Phantasy Star Nova, an upcoming PlayStation Vita game developed by Star Ocean makers tri-Ace, we haven’t heard too much about it—until now, that is. This week’s issue of Famitsu shares new details on the game. (Thanks, Zaregoto.)
Phantasy Star Nova takes place in the world of Phantasy Star Online 2, and it will have its own original story with the main characters of Lutina (voiced by Maaya Uchida,) Seil (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka,) Izuna (Ai Kayano,) Fordia (Miyuki Sawashiro,) and Magnus (Banjo Ginga).
The atmosphere of the game is said to be closer to that of the first Phantasy Star Online, where “survival” is one of the visual concepts behind the game, as there will be features such as costume destruction to add a touch of reality to it.
The character creation is also similar to that of Phantasy Star Online’s with more realistic textures. After meeting certain conditions, you’ll also get to change designs for the characters later on in the game. Since the world is based on Phantasy Star Online 2’s “Episode 1” version, the new races and classes that appear in Episode 2 have not been confirmed for Phantasy Star Nova.
As far as the battle system goes, the report indicates that it is completely different from that of Phantasy Star Online 2, so players that are new to the series can jump right in. Upon starting Phantasy Star Nova, players won’t have any facilities, but they’ll be unlocked over time, and the order of which ones get unlocked can be decided by the players.
There’s Ad-Hoc multiplayer, and no word for online infrastructure as of now. More details will be revealed during a Phantasy Star festival that takes place on June 15th.
Phantasy Star Nova will release sometime in 2014 for PlayStation Vita.
