The PSP has plenty of network RPGs and Monster Hunter clones, few of which support online play. Sure, you can use a PlayStation 3 and connect with distant gamers via Ad-hoc Party, but wouldn’t it be nice to play online without a PS3?
Sega agrees and added an infrastructure mode to Phantasy Star Portable 2. This means you’ll be able to log on to a server, meet friends, and rumble with rappies with a wireless router. Four players can party or sit around or chat with a text message system online.
Great news, but importers may want to think twice about purchasing the Japanese version. 4gamer reports the infrastructure mode is for countrywide play, i.e. Japan only. As of now Phantasy Star Portable 2 has not been announced for any other region. You should be able to log online with Phantasy Star Portable 2. However, if a North American or PAL version matriculates you may not be able to play with your local friends.
Phantasy Star Portable 2 materializes on December 3 in Japan.
