The PlayStation 4 “Shingen” update has a release date. The PlayStation Blog says the 4.00 firmware will be released on September 13, 2016. This is the software update that will improve the library, refresh the UI, add folders, and update the Quick Menu and Share Menus.

Additional PlayStation 4 4.00 update features have been announced. The What’s New page will  have a new look, which has an Activity Feed in a left-hand column, with the right offering Now Playing, Trending, Who to Follow, and Players You May Know sections. The content info screens for game tiles will now allow someone to quickly see the game’s overview, trending, friends and communities, activities, and PlayStation Store sections. High Dynamic Range (HDR) settings will be available in the Video Output Settings, for people with compatible displays to use. An enhanced Music section will appear in the Quick Menu, letting you control your music, see recommended playlists, and look through your available songs and playlists.

The PlayStation 4 4.00 firmware will also prepare people for the PlayStation 4 Pro. People will be able to transfer data from one system to another over a wired LAN connection, in addition to the immediately available cloud transfers. The update will also allow for high-resolution content output via the following means.

  • 1080p streaming for Remote Play on PC/Mac and compatible Xperia devices
  • 1080p streaming for Share Play
  • 1080p 30/60fps live broadcasting on YouTube
  • 1080p 30fps live broadcasting on Twitch

The European PlayStation Blog has released a walkthrough video that goes over the PlayStation 4 4.00 update’s features.
