Sony sent over some details about their EyeToy successor today, the Playstation Eye. The camera has a better microphone to reduce background noise and can capture video at 120 frames per second (nice!). More interesting than the camera is the EyeCreate software that comes packaged with it. With EyeCreate you can capture, edit and save videos to your Playstation 3’s hard drive. The Playstation Eye supports games like SingStar, which allows people to video tape their karaoke performances and share them with other users. Also something to note is Sony bought out Grouper, a YouTube-like video sharing site. Perhaps a future update will allow PS3 users to upload their EyeCreate videos directly to Grouper. Sony has all of the tools necessary for user created video content at their disposal and if the PS3’s user base grows they could become a YouTube rival in the future.
