Project Athia’s Writing Team Led by Gary Whitta

By 3 months ago

When Square Enix and Luminous Production’s Project Athia PS5 and PC project appeared at the June 2020 PlayStation 5 event, we were given hints about what to expect from the game. There were clips of footage and hints that a woman was brought to a new and different world, where she will be challenged and forced to excel to survive. Now, we have an idea of one of the people behind it. Gary Whitta, screenwriter and host of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons “talk show” Animal Talking, was involved in creating the title’s world.

Whitta announced his involvement via Twitter after the PlayStation 5 event. He confirmed that he was the lead for the writing team that designed Project Athia’s world. Here’s his confirmation, which also noted that he is still working on another project. He did not name any of the other writers involved with this Square Enix project.

Previously a PC Gamer editor-in-chief, Whitta is also known for work writing for other mediums. He was involved as a writer on Telltale projects like The Walking Dead: The Game. He also worked on the scripts for After Earth, The Book of Eli, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Square Enix also released an assortment of additional Project Athia screenshots. All of them also appeared in the trailer shared on June 11, 2020.

The Project Athia PS5 and PC game is currently in development. It does not yet have a release date or final title, but it does have an official website.
