Sony dropped the price of the PSP Core Pack in North America $30 cheaper making the price of a PSP $169.99. Not a moment to late either with some unique games like Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, Crush and the Final Fantasy Anniversary Collection games in the pipeline. In the long release there is one bit of information that is a bit open ended.
Software shipments increased to more than 90 million units* last year, and the platform is poised for further growth this year with a software release schedule that includes exclusive titles from major franchises, including God of War®, Ratchet & Clank®, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs, and Syphon Filter®.
Let’s look at that statement again. It sounds like they are talking about future first party exclusives for the PSP. God of War has been confirmed for the PSP via the instruction manual in God of War II, but the other three games are new on the radar. The Ratchet & Clank listed could be pointing to Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (likely) and even though it hasn’t been announced Sony is developing a sequel to Fireteam Bravo. But that is sort of a given since the SOCOM series is one Sony’s strong points. It’s the potential for a new Syphon Filter game that interests me. While the Syphon Filter series started to wane after the PS2 release, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror for the PSP was great and it sounds like a follow up game is going to come out later this year.
