Jesse Makkonen has spent the past few months working on a “speed project.” Now he’s revealed it to be DISTRAINT, a 2D psychological horror, which is about intruding the home of an old woman and living with the decisions you make therein.

Makkonen has building up a library of these types of games starting with Silence of the Sleep and following that up with the his next big project The Human Gallery. DISTRAINT seems to be the shortest and perhaps most accessible of the three.

You play as a young ambitious guy called Price who seizes this old woman’s property in order to “forge a partnership from a famous company.” The description then tells us that it’s in this moment that Price finds out the price of his humanity and we discover the tale of his regrets.

Makkonen says DISTRAINT should last about two hours and that the story progresses quickly through many different scenarios and settings. However, to play, you only need to move left and right, illuminating the way with your lantern and solving puzzles.
