PT Silent Hills Demo May Not Work on a PS5 (Update)

Those lucky few who still have PlayStation 4s with the P.T. Silent Hills demo on it will need to cherish them. That demo won’t make the journey to the PlayStation 5, based on what we know so far. Konami told GamesRadar that the trial, which was only available briefly and never resulted in a full game, won’t be backwards compatible. Siliconera has an email in to Konami for further clarification regarding potential compatibility. [Thanks, GamesRadar!]

The explanation for it being a PS4-only download has to do with its delisting. GamesRadar noted that the representative comment said it wouldn’t be able to be redownloaded due to not appearing on the store.

The P.T. Silent Hills demo was removed from the PlayStation Store back in April 2015, due to the project being canceled, about a year after its reveal. As a result, it couldn’t be redownloaded. Since then, people have even gone on sites like eBay selling systems that still have the trial on it for $300 and up.

In the years since its removal, people have attempted to recreate the experience on the PC. There were recreations shortly after the bad news dropped. Some developers started trying to make their own games that were like it. Most recently, RadiusGordello put together Unreal PT, a recreation of the demo that even allows people to use a VR headset to play.

The P.T. Silent Hills demo was briefly available between 2014 and 2015 for the PS4. It won’t be playable on the PS5.
