With Sega San Francisco shut down, Punch-Out!! developer Next Level Games is stepping in to work on Captain America: Super Soldier. The third game in Sega/Marvel partnership is set in the same world as the upcoming Captain America film, but has an original story written by Christos Gage.

Captain America: Super Soldier takes place during World War II where Cap shield bashes his way through Hydra to get to supervillains like Arnim Zola and the Red Skull. Sega explains Captain America’s shield will be a key tool in the game. Players will use it to knock out enemies, deflect bullets, scaling walls (huh?), and puzzle solving.

Sega has Captain America: Super Soldier slated for release next year. These are screenshots from the PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 version. A version of the game is also coming out on Wii, PSP, and Nintendo DS.
