When Capcom USA announced Resident Evil 5’s competitive versus mode they didn’t date it. Famitsu reports distribution for the download begins on April 9, a two week delay from this week’s launch on March 26. At the moment, this release date is only for Japan, but it’s hard to imagine Capcom not releasing a completed patch worldwide on the same week.

Resident Evil 5’s Versus Mode has a Majini shooting gallery mode called Slayer’s Rule and Survivors Rule, a deathmatch style mode for four players.

The Versus mode download costs about half the price in Japan than it does here. On the PlayStation Store it’s 250 yen ($2.60) and 160 Microsoft Points over Xbox Live. Microsoft Points cost more in Japan, but even if you adjust for the difference in the price of points the Versus Mode still costs $2.45 in Japan. Capcom will sell the versus patch for $4.99 and 400 Microsoft Points for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 respectively.
