While we’re likely still a year away from the new mainline Pokemon game for the Switch 2, we can already hear some of a song from the Pokemon Winds and Waves soundtrack. Game Freak and Nintendo released a video going over the main theme for this entry in the series. As it’s a behind-the-scenes sort of performance, we can actually see the full orchestra recording the track.
No specific name of the track is given, beyond the video describing this as the “Main Theme” for the new mainline Pokemon games. The opening shares some plush of characters from the series, with ones like Pikachu already showing up in the first trailer for these installments. It then established that the Tokyo NHK Symphony Orchestra performed the song. The footage primarily shows the musicians performing. However, occasional scenes of locations from the game appear too.
Here’s the official “Main Theme Recording – Behind the Scenes” video for Pokemon Winds and Waves.
This is the second information drop we’ve gotten for the new mainline Pokemon game for the Switch 2. We first learned about the title back in February 2026, as it was part of the 30th anniversary Pokemon Presents Direct showcase. That included a first look at some gameplay footage, returning creatures, our avatar trainer designs, and the three new starters. Those are the fire-type Pombon, grass-type Browt, and water-type Gecqua.
Pokemon Winds and Waves will come to the Switch 2 in 2027, and we should see a full soundtrack release that includes the main theme song that year as well.
