The trailer establishes the setting of SD Gundam Battle Alliance as the “G: Universe,” a place under threat by the “Break” phenomenon. The Breaks are disruptions in the timeline that cause the proper histories of various Mobile Suit Gundam stories to mix and blend. In one example, the iconic duel between Gouf pilot Ramba Ral and original Gundam pilot Amuro Ray is turned into one against Gundam Barbatos, the main mobile suit of Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. The Breaks are caused by the action of Gundam Latreia, a new original mecha design by Kuramochi Kyoryu, an illustrator credited with mecha and character designs for various franchises including Kamen Rider Kabuto, Muv-Luv Alternative, and Gundam Walpurgis.

As an action RPG, SD Gundam Battle Alliance supports real-time combat against enemies, using various mobile suits drawn from across the Gundam multiverse. The mecha are represented in SD Gundam‘s distinct super-deformed style, with large heads and short limbs. New playable characters can be unlocked through a research and development system. Each playable mobile suit has a unique set of weapons and special moves. Mobile suits can be improved with items. A large variety of Gundam series are represented in the playable roster, with mobile suits from series like Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Gundam Unicorn, Gundam Wing, Gundam Thunderbolt, Iron-Blooded Orphans, Gundam 00, Gundam X, Gundam SEED, Victory Gundam, and more. Missions can be tackled in groups of up to three mobile suits, controlled by players or the AI.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance will also come with pre-order bonuses and a season pass covering planned DLC releases. Pre-order bonuses include early access to the original Gundam, original characters from the SD Gundam franchise like Knight Gundam, Musha Gundam, and the characters from SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden. The DLC season pass covers the release of a total of 3 Unit & Scenario packs, which will add 6 scenario missions and 7 playable units, as well as a bonus pack of progression resources.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance releases on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on August 25, 2022. Though the game was also announced for Nintendo Switch in February, the official site does not contain pre-order links for the Switch version as of press time.
