There’s another Sea of Stars update, and it involves both a Switch 2 port and a Sunset Edition patch with new additions for existing platforms. Both will appear on June 8, 2026. If someone already owns the Switch version of the game, they can get the updated port for free. However, it doesn’t involve an Upgrade pack like other titles.

In the case of the Switch 2 version of Sea of Stars, people do need to make a bit of an effort to play it. If the Switch version is tied to your account, you can “buy” the new port for free in the eShop. You will need to make sure you did download the original Switch version and its save files to your new console, as there is an import process to let you carry those over.

As for the new additions everyone gets in Sunset Edition, two out of three are cosmetic. Bryce Kho created new key art that references the major characters. There’s a new cinematic opening too, though you must start a new game for that. However, there are some gameplay adjustments, as both the Normal and Hard difficulty levels are rebalanced for this release.

Here’s the official trailer for Sea of Stars Sunset Edition:

This means Sea of Stars got free major updates in both 2025 and 2026. Last year, the Throes of the Watchmaker add-on launched. That was a free expansion. It added to the story and makes Artificer playable.

Sea of Stars Sunset Edition is available on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices.
