Many gameplay elements and features were being adjusted when Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King made the jump from the PlayStation 2 to the Nintendo 3DS. Obvious alterations are the inclusion of Red and Morrie as playable characters and no random encounters. To help point out all the things that are different this time around, Nintendo has released a trailer that goes through the major additions.

The Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King trailer begins with a look at Red and Morrie. It then shows how all enemies can be seen on the map, eliminating random encounters. It then shows two battle speeds, normal and fast, and how a party member’s HP and MP recover when he or she levels up. Cameron Obscura’s photography feature is also detailed, showing how you’ll be tasked with taking pictures of certain landmarks or features. It closes with a look at instant item creation, additional story segments, the new dungeon, quick saving, and costumes.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King will come to the Nintendo 3DS in North America and Europe on January 20, 2017.
