The Nintendo Channel is the source for Nintendo news in Japan. An announcement trailer appeared like a bolt of blue for Captain Rainbow yesterday. Catherine, who appears to be a Birdo, explains Nick, the protagonist wearing a Hawaiian shirt, washes ashore on an island. Nick becomes Captain Rainbow and gains powers like wall breaking punches, comic book style. While the brief gameplay segments suggest Captain Rainbow is a 3D action game there isn’t much to see. We should know more soon since Captain Rainbow is scheduled to come out this summer in Japan.

The other odd note about Captain Rainbow is the game is rated CERO B. Usually, Nintendo published games in Japan are designed to be CERO A, the equivalent of being “E for Everyone”. There are recent exceptions like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Battalion Wars, but both of these were Western developed games. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is one of the few, and the only game in recent memory developed internally at Nintendo, with a CERO B rating.
