While Sega have their own Monster Hunter-like games with their portable Phantasy Star titles, they seem to be looking into making a splash in the smartphone hunting games’ market, with the announcement of Monster Gear. [Thanks, Zaregoto.]

Monster Gear is an upcoming smartphone title with the genre of “hunting action,” where players will get to team up with up to four players and take on missions. However, it sounds more like a Monster Hunter lite, as the missions take roughly 5 minutes, which sounds like it’d be ideal for playing on the go, or as a pick-up game.

Details on gameplay are light for now, but the basic controls consist of “Attack,” “Guard,” and “Special Double Attack”. It’s also mentioned that it can simply be played with just one hand.

Monster Gear will release in May 2015 for Android and iPhone. It’ll be free-to-play with micro-transactions.
