Sega confirms Sonic and the Black Knight

Nintendo Power tells no lies. Sonic and the Black Knight is in development for the Wii, scheduled to come out in spring 2009 in North America and Europe. Sonic Team is branching off from Sonic and the Secret Rings by throwing their most famous mascot in an Arthurian Legend. His goal is to become a knight. I’m guessing this is going to involve motion controlled sword fighting compatible with the Wii MotionPlus accessory.

Details are still scarce considering the game hasn’t even been announced in Japan. Actually, Japan seems to be the last place to get Sonic news. Sonic Unleashed finally got an official title in Japan, Sonic World Adventure, and they aren’t scheduled to get the PlayStation 2 port.

Sonic and the Black Knight doesn’t sound like the last Sonic mashup either. European Marketing Director, Gary Knight, referred to the Storybook series in the press release. What’s next? Sonic and the Jungle Book?
