When I spoke with Aaron Weber, Community Manger, he told me they actually looked into keeping the bikini pinups from Young Jump. Sega of America couldn’t work out a deal, so they created a contest to replace the models with fan art. The international version will have digital Rappy and Alis Landale (she’s from the original Phantasy Star) posters in the game.

Sega is doing something similar for the Famitsu Shield. Items tied to Japanese game magazines won’t be cut. These will be replaced with items linked to Western video game magazines. Don’t be surprised if some of the anime tie-ups make it overseas too. Sega is trying to keep content like the like Fate/Stay Night costumes in the North American version.
