Seiken Densetsu 3, the third entry in Square’s Mana series, celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. To celebrate, a group of fans going by DNA created the two and a half minute fan movie above. Originally released on Niconico Douga, the project took over two years to complete.
Seiken Densetsu 3 is one of the JRPG classics that wasn’t released outside of Japan during the Super Nintendo’s lifespan. As in Secret of Mana, players controlled a party of three as they fight to restore the piece in a world where Mana is fading. It was unique in that there were six playable characters to choose from at the beginning of the game and a class system that allowed people to customize characters by choosing between Light or Dark. All six characters, Angela, Charlotte, Duran, Hawkeye, Kevin, and Riesz, are shown in the CG video above.
Seiken Densetsu 3 is one of only three Mana games to remain a Japan exclusive. Sword of Mana, Secret of Mana, Legend of Mana, Children of Mana, Dawn of Mana, and Heroes of Mana were all released in other territories. Square Enix is currently preparing a remake of the original game as Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden for the PlayStation Vita, Android, and Apple iOS.
