//signal will be available on Steam and itch.io for 1000 JPY ($6.70). As well, a limited number of physical copies will come out as well. These will sell for 1700 JPY ($11.40). According to the description of the demo, you will play as Lain, who is gathering logs in the Wired to reconnect with others around her. You will have to read through diaries and e-mails and the like to solve the mystery of what happened in the past. This will reveal a new side to both Lain and the story of Serial Experiments Lain.

While the official website for //signal states that it doesn’t have any affiliation to Serial Experiments Lain, Chiaki Konaka (the head writer of the series) has given the project his blessings via a recommendation. It also falls under lainTTL, in which individuals in Japan do not need to ask for permission to distribute or sell fan-made content for Lain so long as they abide by set guidelines.

Serial Experiments Lain is an anime that originally aired in 1998. It follows Lain Iwakura, who explores the mysterious virtual realm of the Wired. Despite its age, it’s a highly influential work for its themes, story, and visuals. Today, merchandise like acrylic boxes are still produced and in 2023, Anique even launched an AI chatbot based off Lain.
