ININ Games and Yu Suzuki announced Shenmue 3 will appear on consoles other than the PS4, as an “enhanced” version is heading to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and unspecified a “Nintendo” Switch or Switch 2 release. The announcement noted this will be a gamescom 2025 reveal. That should also confirmed whether the “TBC” (to be confirmed) Nintendo mention referenced the previous Switch or new Switch 2. This release will also appear on the PC. There’s no launch date yet.

The announcement included a bullet-point list of some of the changes and additions coming to Shenmue 3 Enhanced on the PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and an unspecified Nintendo Switch series console. Nine elements came up. Some are related to the game’s appearance, such as 4K textures, faster loading, and DLSS/FSR support. Others deal with gameplay, such as an ability to skip scenes, choose a “Classic Camera,” and adjustments to health, stamina, QTE windows, and money. The UI will be adjusted. More NPC characters will appear in cities to increase crowd sizes. There will be toggles to determine if changes appear too. Finally, there will be an upgrade path for people who purchased the original PS4 and PC release to get access to the newer release’s features.

The original Shenmue appeared on the Dreamcast, before eventually showing up on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018. Shenmue 2 started as a Dreamcast and Xbox release, before eventually heading to the Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The Shenmue series never appeared on a Nintendo console before now.

Shenmue 3 is on the PS4 and PC, and its Enhanced edition will be officially unveiled at gamescom 2025 for “Nintendo,” the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Gamescom 2025 runs August 20-24, 2025.
