Burroughs is like the Cortana of Shin Megami Tensei IV. This AI entity is installed in your gauntlet. Sometimes, she acts like a guide, giving players warnings before big fights. Like other Shin Megami Tensei games, the protagonist is silent, so Burroughs does most of the talking. She has a distinct personality and greets the player with an air of formality. Burroughs also acts as your tutor and early on she teaches you how to use apps.
The Gauntlet you wear in Shin Megami Tensei IV can be enhanced with app points, which you earn by leveling up. Burroughs walks you through this system and gives you the Scout app. This skill lets you talk to demons, but only about adding them to your party. If you want to ask for macca or gifts you have to learn other abilities.
We got to play an English build of Shin Megami Tensei IV recently. Here’s a list of app skills you can learn in the game:
Demon Analyze (20 app points) – Allows you to view abilities that demons have.
Skill Smoother I (20) – Decreases MP cost of demon skills by 1.
Scout Gift (15) – Befriended demons give you a gift
Negotiate (20) – I believe this stops enemies from attacking your team.
Fundraise (15) – Ask for macca.
Mapper – A skill that auto maps an area.
Shin Megami Tensei IV will be released on July 16th in North America.
