Should You Go to Drakenhold or Elheim in Unicorn Overlord?

After rescuing Scarlett in “The Priestess, Abducted” mission in Unicorn Overlord, you get the option of moving on to a Main quest in either Drakenhold (labeled as Drakengard on the map) or Elheim. Fortunately, this isn’t some dire decision that locks you into one path or the other.

Should I go to Drakenhold or Elheim after Cornia in Unicorn Overlord?

Given how easy it is to fast travel in Unicorn Overlord, don’t see this sudden choice as something dire or permanent. Both “The Kingdom of Dragons” and “The Winding Wood” quests will open up as options. The former takes you to the southeast to Drakenhold, while the latter involves going to the southwest to Elheim. Either choice is absolutely fine. Honestly, you can even start both at about the same time and fast travel back and forth between the two regions.

However, there are a few things to know. Of the two areas, Drakenhold is filled with less challenging quests. By that I mean they are at a lower level. The first “The Battle for Mier” one that opens up Drakenhold is at enemy level 9, for example. Meanwhile, the Elheim ones begin at much higher levels. Expect enemy levels to start around level 13-15 instead, with some promoted units appearing as foes or new allies.

Depending on how much of Cornia you liberated after “The Priestess, Abducted,” you honestly might not have an army strong enough to go to Elheim first. If the first fight in Elheim is too intimidating, then head to Drakenhold.

Also, if you care about the optional offline single-player and the asynchronous online arena, you should head to Drakenhold first. After completing the “Another Prince” mainline quest, you open up access to Baumatte and its Coliseum.

Since eventually you’re going to need to visit both places for the sake of the story, going somewhere for a story-based reason or for liberating areas isn’t a real excuse to pick one over the other. However, you will get certain folks in your army sooner depending on which region you head to first. If you go with Drakenhold first, then you’ll immediately get Virginia and Leah in your army. Aramis, Berengaria, and Primm will join shortly after. Going to Elheim gets you Rosalinde and Lhinalagos almost immediately. One of the first missions after that will give you a chance to recruit people like Celeste, Gammel, and Mandrin, depending on your decisions.

Unicorn Overlord is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X
