Tecmo, demonstrating they have projects outside of Team Ninja, unveiled Nostalgio no Kaze (Nostalgio’s Wind). It’s a joint RPG project with Red Entertainment (Sakura Wars) developed by Matrix Software, best known for the DS Final Fantasy remakes. Besides being in 3D Nostalgio no Kaze has airship on airship combat as seen in this screenshot. My first thought was Skies of Arcadia, but the combat system appears to use standard combat menus where you can ram another ship with a front mounted blade. Other airship combat options include assault and skill.
On land Eddie, the protagonist, uses a sword in traditional J-RPG style, and has melody magic. While combat looks familiar, Nostalgio no Kaze is not set in the distant future, the adventure takes place in 19th century London.
On a related note Matrix Software is quite busy these days with Nostalgio no Kaze due out this fall, Avalon Code shortly afterwards. I guess they don’t have time to give Final Fantasy V or VI a 3D remake at the moment.
