Dengeki PlayStation revealed an interesting feature in Tales of Xillia. Players can slowdown battles by pressing the R3 button. This isn’t a character’s special ability, it’s part of the battle system. Both allies and enemies are slowed when this feature is activated.

Why would you want to slow time? This is speculation on my part, but perhaps slower battles would give players more time to input commands for special attacks. Also, if the pace of battle drops dodging attacks should be a bit easier too since you have more time to react.
Tales of Xillia is in development for PlayStation 3 and thus far has only been announced for Japan.
