Female Terry Bogard was one of the big surprises for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, which released today, and key developers from SNK shared details about how they went about making her in an interview in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine.

The following piece from the interview features director Kaito Soranaka and sound designer Mayuko Hino:

Famitsu: Speaking of Terry, we were really surprised when we saw the announcement. [laughs]

Kaito Soranaka, Director: Terry is the face of SNK, after all, so we figured that we could make him into a woman!

Mayuko Hino, Sound Designer: Actually, at first the plan was to have Terry in a woman’s body but keep his voice as male Terry, but when tried it out, it was just really gross! [laughs] So then we decided to change the voice to that of a woman’s too, but then we had some trouble deciding on female Terry’s voice actress, which made auditions very difficult for us.

That certainly sounds troublesome. [laughs] You can also customize the voice right?

Mayuko Hino: Yes, we recorded four voice patterns. The script not only had different lines, but we also prepared things that even changed their personalities, so I felt anxious wondering whether it’d work with the heroines. However, once we actually started recording, the voice actresses nailed it with their talent, so I was relieved. With four aerial voice lines each, the script is about four times the amount. The script ended up surpassing that of The King of Fighter XIV’s.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is now available on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. You can check out more of the Fatal Cutie Terry in our previous report.
