So Far, Sony Sold More PS2s Than PSPs This Year

Sales of PSP hardware dropped sharply between April and September of this year. Sony reports 2.7 million PSP units were sold, down from 4.3 million units during the same period in 2009.

PlayStation 2 hardware sales outpaced the PSP with 3.1 million units during the first half of fiscal year 2010. Sony sold 3.5 million PS2s between April and September last year. While there is discrepancy, Sony forecasts PSP sales will be stronger with 8 million by March 31, 2011 compared to 6 million PS2s.

 

Calendar year* PSP sales are 4.1 million units while PS2 sales are at 4.8 million units.

 

PlayStation 3 sales are up with 5.9 million consoles sold between April and September. Last year, Sony sold 4.3 million PS3s during the same period. Calendar year PS3 sales are at 8.1 million consoles.

 

*Calculated from Q4 fiscal year 2009 sales data plus sales data from the first half of fiscal year 2010, i.e. the period between January to September 31.
