Sega announced and opened its Sonic and Friends official site and TikTok, and it happened as Sega Store Tokyo started taking pre-orders for the plush of Sonic the Hedgehog characters dressed like Sanrio mascots. Those stuffed animals launch in Japan on November 7, 2025, though the Shadow x Hangyodon one will debut on December 11, 2025. We first saw those crossover characters around the time of the 2025 Sanrio Character Ranking.

At the moment, the Sonic and Friends website seems to focus on merchandise connected to this series. The main page showed some of the phone cases, pillows, and plush, for example. Going to characters’ profile pages explain who they are briefly, but also show photos of items based on them. The TikTok account features one introductory video.

As for the Sonic and Friends Sanrio characters plush, there are six stuffed animals in each of the two lines. The smaller Mascot selection features ball-chain keychains attached so you can use them as an accessory. Each one of those is about six inches tall (150mm). The M size ones are nearly a foot tall (300mm). All of them feature Sonic the Hedgehog characters wearing hats based on Sanrio mascots.

Here’s the list of the pairings:

  • Amy Rose in a My Melody hat
  • Dr Eggman in a Pompompurin hat
  • Knuckles in a Kuromi hat
  • Shadow in a Hangyodon hat
  • Sonic in a Hello Kitty hat
  • Tails in a Cinnamoroll hat

And here’s how the M and Mascot lines both look.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Sonic the Hedgehog paired up with Sanrio characters for merchandise. It happened in 2016 too. With that run, we saw Hello Kitty dressed as Sonic, My Melody as Amy Rose, Chococat as Tails, and Badtz Maru as Knuckles.

The Sonic and Friends site and TikTok are now open, and the Sanrio characters plush of Sonic the Hedgehog characters wearing mascot hats will debut in Japan on November 7, 2025.
