While it only got a mediocre reception, Sega has plans to develop a proper sequel to Sonic Rivals. Tails joins the 2.5D footrace alongside Sonic, Knuckles and Silver (wait wasn’t he the slow one?). One of the new features in Sonic Rivals 2 is a battle mode with six “challenges” that utilizes game sharing. Sega also plans to pack in 150 collectable cards that unlock alternate suits, PSP backgrounds and racing circuits.

Sonic Rivals might have its audience, but I think Sega would do better if they use the engine in Sonic Rivals for an original 2.5D, classic Sonic game. Look forward to more hedgehog to hedgehog competition this fall on the PSP if you were a fan of the first.
