Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Comic Announced

IDW Publishing and Sega announced the Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Special comic book, which will appear in time for the blue hedgehog’s birthday. The comic book will have three stories, and the featured authors are Gale Galligan, Ian Flynn, and the McElroy Brothers. IDW Publishing will also release a deluxe edition of the comic book and a collection of past stories later in 2021. Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Special will have 80 pages and three stories:

1. “Dr. Eggman’s Birthday” – Written and illustrated by Gale Galligan (The Babysitter’s Club graphic novels #5-8) and Thomas Rothlisberger.
2. “Season of Chaos” – Written and illustrated by Ian Flynn, Aaron Hammerstrom, and Reggie Graham.
3. “Sonic Learns to Drive” – Written and illustrated by the McElroy Brothers (The Adventure Zone) and Mauro Fonseca.

Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Special will have four cover variants. They are drawn by Sonic Team, Christina-Antoinette Neofotistou, Patrick Spaziante, and Tyson Hesse, respectively. It will be available for $19.99 USD on October 5, 2021. The deluxe edition is a hardcover version that has bonus content, such as an additional story by Gale Galligan and a “From Script to Comic” feature.

IDW Publishing will also release Sonic the Hedgehog: The IDW Collection, Vol. 1 on June 22, 2021, for $59.99 USD. It will contain issues #1-12 of the Sonic the Hedgehog comics. Furthermore, it is the first part of a series of hardcover Sonic editions put together in the recommended reading order. Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Special will be available in June 2021, and the deluxe edition will be available on October 5, 2021. Sonic the Hedgehog: The IDW Collection, Vol. 1 will be available on June 22, 2021.
