sonic2 Famitsu is reporting the swift exit of select Sonic the Hedgehog digital releases from consoles’ online shops. Both the Wii Virtual Console and Xbox Live Arcade versions of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 listings will be removed on October 30.

Sega has not stated if people will be able to redownload Sonic the Hedgehog or Sonic the Hedgehog 2 if they have already been added to a person’s libraries. The company has also not revealed if this will be a universal action and take effect worldwide, or if the delisting is limited to Japan. Both the Wii Virtual Console and Xbox Live Arcade versions of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 are ports of the original Genesis games.

This action will not have any effect on the 3D Classics versions of the games available for the Nintendo 3DS. 3D Sonic the Hedgehog and 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will remain in the Nintendo eShops.
