Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan Confirms That Sony Isn’t Making Another Handheld

In a statement as part of Game Informer‘s feature on the 25th anniversary of the PlayStation, Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan appears to confirm that Sony are not making another gaming handheld after the PlayStation Vita.

Jim Ryan said, “PlayStation Vita was brilliant in many ways, and the actual gaming experience was great, but clearly it’s a business that we’re no longer in now.”

Sony entered the gaming handheld sphere with the PlayStation Portable, which used UMD format discs to play games. The PlayStation Portable also had a digital-only version, the PlayStation Portable Go. The PlayStation Vita was unveiled as the successor to the PSP in 2011, and lasted until March this year, where production was officially discontinued.
