Sony Computer Entertainment filed a Playview trademark application and this doesn’t look like this is for a video game. Unlike other Sony filed trademarks, this was registered for more than video game software.
Playview can be used for a portable electronic device for receiving and reading text, an online e-book store, and electronic publishing over the Internet. A Sony branded e-book reader? Nah. Sony has one of those already. However, Playview could be an e-book store for the PSP or a potential successor.
One other interesting quirk about the trademark is it can be used for retail services with respect to video games and providing information about computer games. Perhaps, Playview is a component in Sony’s rumored PSN+ service or a new kind of online shop where people can test play games before buying them. You know a play-view. Where have we seen something like that before?
SCEA also registered “Step your game up”, which isn’t a mystery to us! It’s the new slogan for the PSP and parting line of Marcus Rivers, the Kevin Butler character for the PSP.
