The JAMSTEC-based Splatfest topic asks – What excites you more? Unidentified species or Cutting-edge technology? Do the mysterious creatures in the depths of the ocean pique your interest more, or do you prefer sleek, brilliant, new research technology?

The Splatfest will be held from 3pm JST, April 21, 2018 until 3pm JST, April 22, 2018.

JAMSTEC will also be providing explanations and descriptions for the deep sea fish-based denizens who will appear in the upcoming Octo Expansion DLC. JAMSTEC’s deep sea research submersible, the Shinkai 6500, will also appear in the Expansion in some manner.

The Splatoon 2 Twitter also noted that this collaboration was foreshadowed by the design of the Autobomb, which is directly based on the Shinkai 6500. JAMSTEC’s research findings can be found on their website here.
