While the US and EU regions are busy fighting it out over who the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle is in Splatoon 2, Japan gets to decide who the best Sanrio mascot is, as part of a collaboration with Sanrio.
Similar to the TMNT Splatfests, the collaboration to take the form of a knockout-style tournament, with Hello Kitty vs Cinnamoroll and My Melody vs Pompompurin to start things off.
Hello Kitty vs Cinnamoroll will take place on May 19, 2018, from 3pm JST, to 3pm the next day. My Melody vs Pompompurin will take place one week later, starting on May 26, 2018. Finally, the final Splatfest will take place from June 9 to June 10, 2018.
Something unique for this collaboration is that the Splatfest tees worn in game with Sanrio characters wearing Splatoon gear will actually be sold in the real world. The T-shirts are currently available for pre-order from the Japan region My Nintendo Store.
Splatoon 2 is available for Nintendo Switch.
