Big news was revealed for Splatoon 2 during the latest Nintendo Direct. A free 3.0 update is coming in late April 2018, while the Octo Expansion, the first paid DLC, will arrive in Summer 2018.

Update 3.0 will bring a number of new things with it. 100 new pieces of gear will appear. The Camp Triggerfish and Piranha Pit maps will return, joined by the entirely new Wahoo World map. There will also be Rank X, which will be higher than S+. Callie will appear in Octo Canyon after certain objectives are met.

The Octo Expansion is an entirely new story mode campaign with 80 stages. People play as Agent 8, an amnesiac octoling who wakes up in a subway system. She is able to take the train to 80 different test facilities and face new levels and bosses. She is joined by Capt’n Cuttlefish as an ally, with Pearl and Marina checking in via a radio. Once you beat this additional campaign, which costs $19.99, you can use an octoling avatar in multiplayer. Also, if you pre-order the add-on, you immediately get octo headgear and clothes for your inkling.

Splatoon 2 is available for the Nintendo Switch.
