Splatoon 2 will be introducing a change to its online play map rotation when it releases in July. As opposed to the original game’s rotation which would refresh the available maps in online mode every 4 hours, the sequel will have this refresh rate at every 2 hours. [Thanks, NintendoEverything.]
As for why such an alteration was made, the game’s producer, Hisashi Nogami, said the following in a recent interview with EDGE magazine.
“We feel that part of the gameplay is actually selecting which weapons would be best for that combination of two maps. In Splatoon 2, the maps rotate every two hours, so it’ll be a much faster cycle than the previous game.”
The 4 hour rotation felt a little too long for many players back on the original Splatoon but it was one of the few nuisances to an otherwise great game, so this is a nice surprise that will hopefully bring a better pace to the upcoming Switch shooter.
Splatoon 2 will release for the Nintendo Switch on July 21st, 2017.
