Takashi Kiryu’s statement on AI comes from his observance of its ability to remain relevant in the public eye. Though it has taken some time to normalize the use of it, he suggests there is potential for it in the digital entertainment field. He even mentioned that Square Enix believes in the potential it to change the way the company creates things.

Here is the full part of his statement in the Square Enix New Year’s message for 2024 concerning AI.

In addition, in the field of AI (artificial intelligence), there have been various discussions centered on the world of academia regarding the impact of AI, but anyone can easily generate sentences, translate text, and have text-based conversations. With the advent of ChatGPT, the popularity of generative AI has accelerated. The scope of application of the generative AI demonstrated by ChatGPT has expanded beyond text to a variety of areas that are highly compatible with digital entertainment, such as images, videos, and music, and new services and content are being created every day. We believe that there is a possibility that not only these movements, but also the processes that create them, including programming, will fundamentally change the way we make things.

Takashi Kiryu recently stepped up as president of the company in June 2023. With the 20th anniversary of Square Enix, the company seems to be committing to this change in the interest of business. Kiryu believes that embracing AI is the answer to helping the company grow this year based on feedback from Square Enix customers, shareholders, investors, and employees.

Kiryu ended his letter by asserting the fact that Square Enix will enter the new year not afraid of change, but embracing it.
