Square Enix shared a notice on the FFXIV Lodestone website in English and Japanese warning subscribers about unauthorized account access and reminding users about safety measures. It didn’t state how many were affected. It only noted that the issue seemed to stem from the same emails and passwords being used for multiple accounts for different services and companies.
As part of the notice about unauthorized FFXIV account access, Square Enix recommended using a unique user ID and password for the MMORPG, as well as one-time passwords. In the statement, it said it is sending emails about reseting the passwords to people it believes are affected. However, it also didn’t rule out sending those emails to all Square Enix accounts to err on the side of caution.
In addition to one-time passwords, Square Enix also suggests using Software Authenticators and sells $14.99 Security Tokens to work with FFXIV. As of time of writing, those official devices sold out on the Square Enix Online Store.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, the FFXIV Evercold expansion will launch in January 2027, and the Japanese version now offers same-region player matching.
